Root, Rise, and Bloom: Your Spring Reset Guide

Embrace the season of growth with practical tips, lighthearted wisdom, and a yoga workshop to refresh body and mind.

Awaken with Spring: Embracing Nature's New Beginning
As winter loosens its grip and the world begins to bloom, we find ourselves on the threshold of a new beginning—Spring. This season is nature's New Year, a time of renewal, expansion, and fresh possibilities. Just as the earth awakens from its slumber, so too can we harness this energy to invigorate our bodies, minds, and spirits.

The Wisdom of the Seed: Growth Takes Time
Imagine a seed nestled deep within the soil. In the stillness of winter, it rests, hidden and unseen—basically enjoying a long nap while the rest of us shovel snow. But before it can sprout, it must first root—reaching down into the earth to absorb the rich nutrients that will sustain its journey upward (think of it as meal-prepping for the big growth spurt). This quiet, unseen work is essential. Only once the roots are strong can the seedling clear space and expand, pushing outward to establish a foundation (a bit like elbowing your way to the front of a crowded yoga class). With this strength, it can begin to rise, breaking through the soil toward the warmth of the sun. And like any of us after a tough winter, it needs its people—an essential settling phase where community fosters sustained growth.
Our personal growth mirrors this natural process. Winter's reflective energy provides the foundation for spring’s awakening. Just as the seed needs time to root deeply before emerging, our own transformation starts quietly beneath the surface. So be patient—no one expects a sunflower to sprout overnight, and neither should you. This is a season to nurture your intentions, fortify your foundations, and allow yourself to expand with care and maybe a little humor.

Living in Rhythm with Spring
For centuries, humans lived in harmony with the cycles of nature, adjusting their daily rhythms to align with the changing seasons. Nowadays, our biggest seasonal shift might be swapping pumpkin spice for iced lattes—but tuning into spring's energy can bring a renewed sense of balance and vitality. Here are some simple (and fun) ways to align with the spirit of the season:
1. Root: Build a Strong Foundation
Before a seed can rise, it must establish strong roots. In our lives, this means grounding ourselves with nourishing routines and clear intentions. Take time to reflect on what supports your growth - whether it’s quality rest, mindful movement, or meaningful relationships. And no, binge-watching three seasons of your favorite show doesn't count as "rest." Honor the unseen work that anchors you, and trust that this foundation will sustain your expansion.

2. Clear and Expand: Make Space for Growth
Just as the seed pushes outward to clear space, spring invites us to release what no longer serves us. Spring cleaning isn’t just about tidying up - it’s a powerful ritual to clear physical and mental clutter. Donate items you no longer need (yes, even that sweater you haven’t worn since 2017), let go of outdated habits, and create space for fresh energy to flow. With this newfound clarity, you make room to expand into new possibilities.

3. Get Strong: Nourish from the Ground Up
The seed draws vital nutrients from the earth to fuel its growth, and so should we. Spring offers an abundance of green, cleansing foods that support detoxification and renewal. Incorporate leafy greens like kale, spinach, and dandelion into your meals to invigorate your body. If it’s green and grows from the ground, your liver will probably love it - bonus points if you can pronounce it without Googling.

4. Rise: Move with the Season
As the seedling pushes through the soil, it embodies the rising energy of spring. Our bodies also crave movement as the days grow longer. After winter's stillness, embrace dynamic practices that reflect the season’s expansion - long walks, cycling, and flowing yoga practices like Vinyasa. Try starting your morning with sun salutations to energize your day. It’s like giving your body a pep talk after months of hibernation.

5. Settle: Reconnect with Community
A plant doesn’t grow in isolation—it thrives in a rich ecosystem. After the introspective quiet of winter, spring encourages us to reconnect with the world around us. Seek out social experiences that nourish your spirit. Gather with friends, join a yoga class, or spend time in nature with loved ones. Because let’s face it, everything’s better when you have people cheering you on - especially when you’re trying to touch your toes.
6. Embrace the Growing Energy
As the seed breaks through the soil and reaches toward the sky, it symbolizes the expanding energy of spring. Use this time to plant the seeds of new projects or personal goals. Whether it’s starting a creative endeavor, refreshing your wellness routine, or finally committing to those yoga classes, let the season’s natural momentum guide you toward growth and possibility. No rush - remember, even the tallest trees started as tiny seeds.
7. Don't Forget to Rest
Spring’s energy can make you feel unstoppable - like you just drank a double espresso - but growth requires balance. All that blooming takes energy! Prioritize rest and recovery by ensuring you get quality sleep and carve out downtime. Engage in activities that are energizing yet restorative - think gentle yoga, nature walks, or reading something that doesn’t involve a screen. Remember, even the busiest bees take a break—so give yourself permission to pause.

Thank you for your kind words, dear Melissa!
We are in the middle of the season already. After the hustle and uplifting energy in March, after the chaos and the fire within us, it is time to calm and ground. Let's simplify everything around, our routines, to-do-lists and plans. Let's use our senses and smell, taste, feel, hear, see the world around.
